You’ve worked hard, hit the goals, built the life. So why does something still feel… off? If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering, “Why am I successful but unhappy?”, or “Why am I not satisfied with my career?”, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken.
For so many high-achieving leaders, the challenge isn’t a lack of drive or skill.
It’s the quiet, unsettled feeling that keeps coming back no matter what you achieve or change.
In this episode, Blake unpacks why success can feel empty, why small fixes only help temporarily, and what’s really going on beneath the surface.
If you’ve been questioning your career, your motivation, or why you can’t just feel satisfied, this episode is for you.
There’s a moment many leaders don’t talk about—the moment where you’ve achieved what you set out to do, but instead of feeling fulfilled, you feel disconnected, unsettled, or even empty. You might find yourself asking “Why am I not satisfied with my career?”—even when everything looks right from the outside.
Because nothing is obviously wrong, this experience is often dismissed. You tell yourself to be more grateful, to push through, or to make changes that should fix it. And sometimes those changes help—for a while. But the feeling returns, leaving you confused about why success doesn’t feel the way you expected it to.
This episode explores why that happens. Not from a surface-level perspective, but by naming the deeper pattern behind it. You’ll begin to see why success can feel empty even when you’ve done everything right—and why this isn’t a personal failure or lack of appreciation.
If you’ve been questioning your career, your motivation, or your ability to feel satisfied with your success, this conversation will help you understand what’s actually going on—and why you’re not alone in feeling this way.

At some point, you look at your life and realize it doesn’t feel the way you thought it would.
And it’s hard when you’re successful and unhappy because so many people push the message that this is just the price you pay for success.
But what do you do when that price feels too high and your identity is tied up in your work? Your lifestyle is built around your income. You have responsibilities, and you care about doing meaningful work.
You just don’t want it to be this hard. You want to feel more energized and more excited to get up and go to work and to have the energy to actually be present and enjoy your life.
And sometimes that’s the hardest thing to admit because so many people believe this is what you have to do to be successful. But deep down, you’re really questioning that.
And when you reach a certain level of success and you thought it would feel different, it can be easy to start to feel like you’re trapped in it. Trapped in the level of responsibility, the expectations, and the life that you’ve built.
And you can feel frustrated and maybe even to some extent a little beaten down because you’ve continued to do the things you thought would make it better, but that unsettled feeling just keeps coming back.
When I was experiencing this, I really thought something was wrong with me. Or I thought I should just be more grateful. Or why can’t I just be happy?
And a lot of high-achieving leaders feel like this, but they keep it inside. Because when we do share it, we’re told things like, maybe you just need to care less. Or your expectations are too high. Or maybe you just need a hobby.
And to be honest, that’s a huge part of why I got stuck for as long as I did. Because I started to believe that.
I started to believe that maybe something was wrong with me and that maybe what I wanted just wasn’t possible.
And the part most people don’t really talk about is what this actually starts to cost you over time. Because on the outside, you still look like you have it together.
Blake Schofield (02:56.184)
People come to you for answers and assume you have it all figured out. But internally, it starts to feel really isolating.
Because you don’t feel like you can actually talk about what’s going on. And when you do, the response isn’t helpful. It’s really not helpful.
And over time, you begin to lose something. That spark of energy you used to have, the excitement, and that feeling of energy, wanting to get up and go do your work.
And it’s not that you don’t care or that you’re not trying. It’s that you keep putting in the effort, keep achieving the goals, and you keep ending back in the same place.
And for me, that turned into this deep sense of sadness. Like, what am I doing wrong? What’s wrong with me and why can’t I just be happy? Why can’t I just be more grateful for what I have?
And even when I tried to slow down or relax or step away from it, it didn’t actually change anything. That feeling was still there.
And so I tried to fix it. And you may too. Try to change something, adjust it, try to make it better.
And for a little while, it does get better. It feels like it’s working until you find yourself right back in the same place again. Same feeling, but in a different circumstance.
And that’s the part that doesn’t make sense.
It wasn’t until I left my 18-year corporate career and became a business owner and started talking to thousands of leaders that I realized this experience, my experience, was not unusual. That I wasn’t alone.
Which meant it wasn’t just me.
And if you can relate to this, I want you to know you’re not alone either. And there is more possibility for your life than this.
There is a way to build a life where you are energized by meaningful work and you still have the energy to enjoy the rest of your life.
But if it’s not the job, it’s not the role, it’s not the circumstances, then what is it?
That’s what we’re going to start unpacking on next week’s episode. I hope to see you there.
Most successful people don’t realize they’re in burnout because stress and exhaustion have become so normalized.
But burnout is actually a sign of deeper misalignment between how you’re wired to thrive and how you’re actually working and living.
Fix the misalignment and everything changes.
